« The Atelier lyrique was really my gateway into the professional world. By observing or participating in rehearsals at the Opéra de Montréal as an apprentice, I was able to rub shoulders with top-level artists who taught me my craft as a director. Without this privileged access, I would not have had the career I have today. »
« Obviously, every project is important and marks a milestone in the evolution and mastery of one’s craft. However, a few productions will remain, for me, essential milestones in my career.
First and foremost, I think of the double bill I Pagliacci/Gianni Schicchi, premiered in Montreal in 2009 (and then revived in Calgary in 2011 and Cincinnati in 2012). This production was my first entirely original design and the first of several collaborations with set designer Olivier Landreville, with whom I also designed La bohème, Faust, Written on Skin, and, most recently, a new production of Werther, which will premiere at the Canadian Opera Company in May 2026.
Next came Dead Man Walking, presented at the Opéra de Montréal in 2013, which was the most moving professional experience of my career. The work, the subject matter, and the exceptional performers who brought this show to life inspired me and allowed me to surpass myself as a director.
And finally, La Traviata, a historic co-production of five Canadian opera houses, premiered in Winnipeg in 2018 and presented in Montreal in 2024. This unique experience allowed me to delve deeper into a legendary work of the repertoire and collaborate with some of the country’s finest artists and artisans. »
