Terms and Conditions of Sale

Terms and Conditions of Sale

The following terms govern all ticket purchases made through the Opéra de Montréal’s ticketing service, the Place des Arts box office, or the websites of Opéra de Montréal and the Place des Arts. Any person who purchases a ticket through these services is deemed to have freely accepted these conditions.

  1. Ticket Pricing and Service Fees

Ticket prices are set by the Opéra de Montréal. Service fees are determined by the Place des Arts and are included in the ticket price. Taxes are extra. For certain performances, the event provider may require additional handling fees, which are then included in the ticket price.

The Place des Arts service fees (included in ticket price):

  • Tickets from $0 to $30 (before taxes): $6.75 per ticket (taxes included)
  • Tickets from $30.01 to $50 (before taxes): $8.25 per ticket (taxes included)
  • Tickets from $50.01 to $75 (before taxes): $9.75 per ticket (taxes included)
  • Tickets from $75.01 to $100 (before taxes): $11.25 per ticket (taxes included)
  • Tickets over $100.01 (before taxes): $13.00 per ticket (taxes included)

  1. Group Packages

The Opéra de Montréal offers group packages. For these, the Place des Arts service fee is $4.25 (taxes included) per ticket and is included in the ticket price.

  1. Lost or Forgotten Tickets

If a ticket is lost or forgotten, the ticket office may, after standard verification, issue a duplicate ticket. A $4 duplicate fee per ticket (charged by the Place des Arts) applies.

The Opéra de Montréal may impose a limit on the number of tickets sold to a single client. Orders that exceed this limit or include duplicates under the same name, billing address, or credit card number may be cancelled without notice at the discretion of either the Opéra de Montréal or the Place des Arts.

Accepted credit cards: Visa, MasterCard, American Express. All purchases are subject to approval by the Opéra de Montréal, the Place des Arts, and the credit card issuer.

  1. No Refunds & Exchange Policy

The client must verify the performance title, date, and ticket category before purchasing. No refunds will be issued.

Performance schedules, casts, dates, and times are subject to change without notice.

Date exchanges are allowed (subject to availability) but incur an exchange fee and must be made within 24 hours of the original ticket date. Exchanges are only available by phone or in person at the Opéra de Montréal or the Place des Arts box offices.

Exchange fees:

  • $0 to $30 (before taxes): $6.75 per ticket (taxes included)
  • $30.01 to $50: $8.25 per ticket
  • $50.01 to $75: $9.75 per ticket
  • $75.01 to $100: $11.25 per ticket
  • Over $100.01: $13.00 per ticket

In the event of a discrepancy between the reservation details and those in the Place des Arts central ticketing system (or any other official ticketing system), the information in the central system will be deemed accurate and will prevail.

In exceptional cases where tickets must be exchanged, the original purchase may be refunded (excluding service fees), and a new transaction must be made for the replacement tickets.

For the Opéra de Montréal subscription tickets, a $3.75 exchange fee per ticket applies when processed by the Place des Arts or by phone. No fee is charged when exchanges are made directly at the Opéra de Montréal box office.

  1. Online Purchases

Online purchases require completion of all booking form fields and must be made by credit card. You must clearly indicate your name and address exactly as they appear on your credit card statement. Purchases made in the name of or for a third party will not be accepted.

  1. Promotions and Discounts

The Opéra de Montréal may occasionally offer discounts on certain ticket categories. These promotions may apply to one or several purchase channels and are usually time limited. They cannot be applied retroactively to previous purchases.

  1. Ticket Delivery

Delivery fees may apply and are determined as follows:

  • E-tickets (if available): No fee
  • Will-call pickup (the Opéra or the Place des Arts box offices): $3.00 per order (or free if e-tickets are not available)
  • Mailed tickets: $3.50 per order (or free if e-tickets are not available)

If tickets (excluding e-tickets) are purchased less than 7 days before the event, they must be picked up at the box office, and a $3.00 fee per order applies.

E-tickets are available up to 72 hours before the event. After that, tickets must be picked up at the Place des Arts, at no charge.

Only the credit card holder used for the transaction can retrieve tickets at the box office. A valid ID and credit card must be presented. Tickets are available 72 hours after purchase. If the event occurs within this timeframe, tickets will be available at the Place des Arts box office on the day of the event.

The Place des Arts does not offer a courier service. In case of event cancellation, ticket refunds will be processed at the point of purchase according to the producer’s terms.

  1. Technical Issues

The Opéra de Montréal and the Place des Arts are not responsible for any failure to complete a reservation or transaction due to technical issues, including system outages or errors, internet issues, or failures within another ticketing system.

  1. Pricing Errors

If the amount paid for a ticket is incorrect due to a payment processing error, the Opéra de Montréal and the Place des Arts reserve the right to cancel the ticket and refund the incorrect amount. This applies whether the error was human or due to a technical malfunction of the website or any other ticketing system operated by the Place des Arts.

  1. Ticket Validity and Restrictions

A ticket becomes invalid if a sworn police report is filed stating it was stolen.

Tickets and related rights may not be assigned, sold, or transferred for commercial purposes or promotional campaigns, whether for profit or not, without prior written consent from both the issuer and the event promoter.

Ticket forgery or resale is strictly prohibited.

IMPORTANT NOTICES

Latecomers and Audience Etiquette

Out of respect for the performers and the audience, latecomers or those who leave during the performance will be directed to the nearest available seat at an appropriate time. Tickets for latecomers cannot be exchanged or refunded. The use of cameras, audio recorders, and video recorders is strictly prohibited during performances. Cell phones and pagers must be turned off before performances.

Parking

The Place des Arts has an indoor parking facility located at: 1450 Saint-Urbain Street, Montreal (QC) H2X 2M5

Admission of Children to a Performance

This policy is intended to facilitate children’s access to performances at the Place des Arts while ensuring the best possible conditions for listening and performance presentation for them, their accompanying adults, the artists, and the general public.

Entry to Performances

  • Every person, including a baby (even if not occupying a seat) or a child of any age, must have a ticket to attend a performance.
  • A child under two years of age is admitted free of charge to all performances presented at the Place des Arts if seated on the lap of a paying adult, unless otherwise specified by the Opéra de Montréal
  • However, the child must still have a ticket, available only at the Place des Arts box office. This ticket will not have an assigned seat. A valid ID for the child may be required to confirm they are under two or meet the minimum age requirement.
  • For shows with a minimum recommended age under two years (e.g., performances for 18 months and older), free admission applies to children younger than the recommended age.
  • Some performances by the Opéra de Montréal are specifically aimed at young audiences. A recommended minimum age is usually provided. Parents are strongly encouraged to respect the recommended age.
  • The Opéra de Montréal offers discounted tickets and packages for children aged 2 to 17, as well as subscriptions for ages 18 to 30. Watch for promotions or contact the Opéra de Montréal for details. If no child discount is available, children occupying a seat must pay the regular ticket price based on the selected seats.

During Performances

  • The Place des Arts must ensure a quiet environment necessary for the quality of the performance and listening experience. Disruption by children will not be tolerated during a performance.
  • If a child disturbs other audience members, staff may ask the adult and child to leave the hall, with no right to a refund or compensation.
  • Booster seats are available for children at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier and Théâtre Maisonneuve. Due to high demand at some performances, not all needs can be met. In these cases, a first-come, first-served policy applies.

The Place des Arts acknowledges that this policy may cause some frustration, but experience shows that audiences generally support these requirements, as they directly contribute to the quality of the performance and listening environment.
