Biographie
Camila Montefusco is a storyteller at heart. Described as possessing “a voice of remarkable power and endurance” (Revue L’Opéra), the Brazilian-born mezzo-soprano appears this season as Rychtarka in Jenůfa, with understudy assignments for Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni and the title role in Carmen. Recent highlights include Second Prize at the Canadian Opera Company Ensemble Studio Competition, Third Prize at the Marmande International Singing Competition, and her debut as alto soloist in Handel’s Messiah with the Orchestre classique de Montréal. Among her recent roles are Offred (The Handmaid’s Tale), Madame Flora (The Medium), Annio (La clemenza di Tito), and Maman (L’Enfant et les sortilèges). Passionate about underrepresented voices, Camila co-founded the Obsidiana Duo to champion Latin American and overlooked composers. Whether on the opera stage or in recital, her work is rooted in the belief that art can connect, heal, and inspire change.
Camila Montefusco’s residency is made possible through artistic sponsorship by the Andrea Alacchi Family.
