Biographie
Canadian baritone Dante Mullin Santone holds a master’s degree from the University of Toronto, where he won the Jim and Charlotte Norcop Award for the most promising singer, art song and lied performance. His roles include Escamillo (Carmen) in the Brottopera program, Papageno (The Shoestring Magic Flute), Ulysses in Castaway, Beaupertuis in Il cappello di paglia di Firenze, and Bartley in Riders to the Sea. Passionate about new works, Dante participated in the premiere of Evan Tanovich’s Missa Solemnis in D (Sinfonietta Aionia) and Allan Bevan’s Perfectly Mad, where he played the role of Rintrah with the Orpheus Choir of Toronto. He has also performed numerous contemporary art songs. He has sung in Mozart’s Requiem (Sudbury Symphony Orchestra), Bernstein’s MASS (Chorus Niagara), and Fauré’s Requiem. He is a former participant in the Art of Song program at the Toronto Summer Music Festival. This season, Dante makes his debut with the Opéra de Montréal in the role of Morales in Carmen and is the understudy for the role of Leporello in Don Giovanni.
