Sebastian Verdugo

Chilean pianist Sebastian Verdugo completed a doctorate in performance in 2017 under Marc Durand and Jimmy Brière at the Université de Montréal, where he also earned his master’s degree in 2011. A graduate of the Escuela Moderna de Música in Chile, he received the largest scholarship awarded by the Chilean government to pursue his master’s and doctoral studies. Sebastian has participated in numerous advanced training programs in the United States (Mammoth Lakes Piano Seminar, Chautauqua Festival), France (Classics Abroad) and Canada (Banff Centre for the Arts, Orford Music), learning from renowned professors such as Julian Martin, Jean-Marc Luisada and Jean-François Antonioli.

 

His interests extend to popular music, particularly that of Latin America, as well as to composition and arranging. He has performed at many of Montréal’s major venues, including the Maison symphonique, Théâtre Maisonneuve, Cinquième Salle and Théâtre de Verdure, and collaborates regularly with a variety of Montréal musicians.

 

As a teacher, he has worked as a professor of piano at the Universidad Catolica de Temuco (Chile) and the Escuela Moderna de Música (Chile); as a student lecturer at Université de Montréal; and as an instructor at the Ecole Enchantée and the Cooperative des professeurs de musique de Montréal, among other positions.
