Biographie

 

Tony Stauffer is a French-born rehearsal pianist and opera accompanist. He holds a doctorate in vocal accompaniment from the University of Montreal, where he studied with Francis Perron and Liz Upchurch. Tony also specialized in vocal arts during his two years at the UdeM-McGill residency program for accompanists. In 2024 and 2025, he participated in the Lehrer Vocal Institute at the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, California, as a pianist, working on productions of Carmen, L’Enfant et les sortilèges and Don Giovanni. He is the winner of the first prize in piano at the 2025 edition of the Marilyn Horne Song Competition. He also trained in German lied interpretation at the Franz Schubert Institute in Austria. This season, Tony performs, among others, as assistant pianist in the productions of Jenůfa and Carmen at the Opéra de Montréal.  In the summer of 2026, he will participate in Merola, a prestigious opera program in San Francisco, where he will work on productions of Ariadne auf Naxos and La tragédie de Carmen.
