Espace Transition at the Opéra de Montréal

Art in service of health

Espace Transition and Opéra de Montréal have joined forces to provide an immersive, transformative operatic creation experience for young adults with mental health issues. Singing – a powerful means of expression, connection, and emotional regulation – helps participants improve their well-being, self-esteem, and feelings of accomplishment. Deeply rooted in inclusive and communal approaches, these projects allow participants to create an original work in collaboration with professional artists, working within a safe, supportive space at the heart of Montréal culture.

Description

Our partnership with Espace Transition is a unique operatic co-creation project for young adults (ages 15 to 24) with mental health issues. Over the course of 15 weeks, participants reinvent a classic opera, design sets and costumes, and eventually stage their own version in close collaboration with professional artists. The project takes place at the heart of Place des Arts and explores every part of the operatic creation process, from writing to staging to the program’s final public performance in a professional setting. This artistic and social initiative combines creativity, inclusion, and the transformative power of art.
