A Day at the Opera
Dive headfirst into the world of opera by spending a day inside the Opéra de Montréal.
A Day at the Opera is an immersive, all-day experience at the Opéra de Montréal featuring participatory workshops, meetings with artists and visits to the inside of the opera house, helping students discover all that opera has to offer. The evening’s opera performance provides the perfect end to the day.

Description
Workshop: Opéra-minute
Students experience the operatic creation process first-hand using excerpts from great operatic arias. They reinvent lyrics, discover their voices, and perform some of the most memorable opera scenes of all time!
Opera 101 and artist Q&A
With the help of one of our teaching artists, students discover the foundations of opera and get to know the piece they’ll be seeing that evening. Two singers and a professional pianist perform a few of opera’s greatest hits, as well as excerpts from the Opéra de Montréal’s current production.
Visit the costume workshop
Students learn how costumes are created and explore the Opéra de Montréal’s rich costume collection in this exclusive tour.
Operatic wigs and makeup
Together with an Opéra de Montréal makeup artist, students observe stage makeup techniques and the wig-making process up close.
Experience backstage
Students go behind the scenes, getting a closer look at the production they’re about to see from the other side of the curtain.
Attend the opera
The day ends with the evening’s opera performance, giving students the full “opera for everyone” experience.
