La Gang à Rambrou
Opera gives voice to disabled experiences
La Gang à Rambrou promotes the inclusion, empowerment and cultural participation of people with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorders, through the transformative power of art.
Description
Through the performing arts, visual arts, and music, La Gang à Rambrou participants develop their social skills, creativity, and ability to make their voices heard in the public sphere. With Opéra de Montréal, they become part of ambitious artistic projects, placing them at the heart of the opera creation process and reaffirming their role in our shared cultural life. Rooted in Montreal’s diverse cultural scene, this program strives to dismantle prejudice, raise awareness, and honour the artistic contribution of disabled communities.
In collaboration with community organization La Gang à Rambrou, we offer inclusive opera workshops designed specifically for people with intellectual disabilities or autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Led by the Opéra de Montréal’s teaching artists, these workshops use the expressive power of singing, acting, and collaborative creation in order to encourage social participation, build self-esteem, and nurture artistic growth. At the end of the project, participants give a full performance for their friends and family, showcasing their talents and cultural importance.
